I AM SOMEBODY NOW! well sorta

I am so excited to say that the podcast is now on ITUNES! YAY and hooray!

Will be dyeig up a storm tomorrow and through next week. Can't wait to get back in the groove and make a schedule.
Right now the only schedule I have is getting up in the morning and making his breakfast, cleaning and organizing and planning for the next day.

Right now I see light at the end of the tunnel and a real schedule will develop quite soon!

Alaska news? Sent in registration for the boat in our name. Previous owner has put all the electronics back in  and started it up. Great guy! He found a few little things like a cracking hose and small tear in the window of the canopy he fixed them both!
I see some Ugly Dog shipping his way in thanks for all that he has done to help us out...........hmmmmmmmmm wonder if his wife knits? Can't wait to meet them if we get the chance.

Planning on meeting with the owner of the local yarn shop in the next few days or first of next week. Need to get some pricing and ideas solidified so that I can move on and add that to my schedule also.

Thats about it for now.............going to finish some work and enjoy the rest of the day!

Wednesday 4-10 Rain and storms rolling in!

I haven't had much time with the dyepots this week so far and it's half over? Well time to step it up!

I have been knitting up some of my very first yards of self striping and am very excited with the results! I can't wait to debut this in the shop!

So much happening here in the next few days and weeks that I can hardly control my excitement and yes nerves and stress level.

I can get through this too right?

Here is just an example of stripes vs rows. I didn't care that much about the colors etc. Just wanted to experiment with getting yarn on the warping board made by Jon. Tying off the areas and yardage I wanted to color, then dye it, dry it and re-warp it in order to wind it off.

I am happy with this result and will be working on the next mini skein experiment before diving in head first for 450 yards of possible tangled mess LOL. Preparation! Learning and patience.

Sunday, April 7, 2013

Episode 3 fingers crossed!

I sure hope that this one comes out better than the last............I'm telling you this is a learning curve and process!

I digress not much for show notes............lemme toss some in!

THE WILD: Update to the adventure details and the hunt, find and gather

Somehow I have to figure out meals for this trip. He said its not like we will not have access to small shops and stores sometimes we just can’t plan on it.

Don’t know what to do about it and for anyone that will help………there will be a prize drawing. Go to the ravelry group and in the thread camp cooking enter your ideas. I will randomly pick someone at the end of may and you will win a great prize……………yet to be determined of course.
THE WACKY: my life……….whats going on family, critter news etc.
This week has been exciting! Blooming Knitter from the knitting blooms podcast and rav group Tina ask me if I would be interesting in a project this fall I said yes and we are working out the details.
I am heading to knitopia april 25-28 the GGpL in May
I signed up with a personal trainer friend to kick my butt into shape LOL
THE WORK: all about the business…….
I spent some time designing and ordering some buttons! For the shop

THE WOODS: . Jon has been very busy with his work at Ugly Dog distillery here in Chelsea Michigan. Just last week if you missed it, or I didn’t mention it an episode of under the radar Michigan was aired on public broadcast network I will have a link in the show note to watch directly from the internet. Jon and Ruger were in the feature segment about really cool places to visit in Chelsea Michigan  the jiffy company, the common grill there was ugly dog distillery! So go take a look.

http://www.utrmichigan.com

No Ruger isn’t really an ‘ugly’ dog he is very cute it is just the nickname given the this breed of dog the german wire haired pointer (they didn’t get that part correct on the show!!!) LOL.
THE WISH LIST:  things I have found for biz or wooly and where to find it.
Probably the only thing that I did this week……………I ordered buttons from buttons just buttons.org I believe is the address.

THE WONDER: photos, anything Alaska inspiration
HA! This weeks wonder is just about I wonder how I made it through the week! I need better planning of time and management!
I found a planner…….i believe it is a teachers planner and you have nice areas to plan you daily schedule or activities or to do list.
As my life is changing I will have to be and continue to be productive……even moreso to not get lazy and put off stuff for the following days! I need to have structure and plans, always plans!

So that about wraps it up remember to go to the ravelry group thread on the camp recipes and food ideas. You could win a prize just for entering your idea!
Thank you for watching! Have a great week!

It's Friday! 4-5

I love the weekend! I get to take my time and plan for all the dyeing and yes even house cleaning!
During the week it is hard to juggle both jobs and the man job too.
Last nights dyepots yielded some new and fun colors! Can’t wait to share on the 15th!
I have to step up my game just a bit as I am taking yarns and fibers to two retreats that are pretty much back to back!
Knitopia with Bloomingknitter the 24th thru 28th of this month! Yes this month April!
And the next is GGPL with cjkopec May 16-19th, 2013
And then the next project is to get in the gym for me to get into a bit of shape before Alaska! YIKES its a whirlwind!

Plan for the weekend is to take my first try at the new warping board and self striping yarn! I think the hardest part is for me to pick the colors! I love colors! This is soooo exciting!

I have the bestest man in the world! He made me this!

Next on his honey do list is that he is working on some more orifice hooks for me to take to my retreats! We work so well together!

Have a great day!

Episode 2 -April 1 2013

Well this is it! I did it again.........whew.

Enjoy!

Please forgive this scrunched up format don't know what happened!

Show notes:
THE WACKY:  Introduce chico?

Easter weekend at the cabin. Jon built this cabin in the woods in northern michigan himself. only power is generator and solar power. no tv but we do have cell phones and can watch movies and youtube if we/he gets bored. LOL what will we do in alaska? might need sattelite dish and plan for like 1-2 hours per day of some kind of tv.

Being at the cabin is work. No running water, have to melt snow at this time of year for dishes etc. we only bring in drinking water and food. So to make a meal we do have propane for the stove or bbq and then it is heat water for dishes and that takes time. Everything takes more time to accomplish at the cabin. Even keeping the woodstove going for a constant heat or warmth and then there is the cutting and splitting of the wood to make that happen.

 THE WILD:

We are continuously working on getting ready for the Alaska trip this summer. As I have said before we have a boat and insurance on the boat, purchased our plane tickets and the gathering pile continues to grow in the corner of my bedroom! Packs and boxes and just stuff.

For easter jon got me a compass and machete and a net bag that we can use to put food stuff over the side of the boat took keep somethings cold.

THE WORK: all about the business
I did a quick shop update on the Thursday before easter.

I have some new fiber base: DK weight that will be named pebbles base
85% superwash Merino / 15% 231 yds/100gr there will be a few colorways done with this base
A few new in worsted 240 yards s/w merino base camp base
and several sock weight of s/w 75-25 merino nylon at 450 yards in iditarod base

You can see these in the shop:  http://northcabinfibercraft.etsy.com

THE WOOLY: knit it and talk about what I have done for the week, works in progress:

kntting: completed hitchhiker 3-24 found ball band for fiber content type brand

Socks from lollipop yarn in the cabin fever colorway knitting on size 1 for me toe up will do afterthought heal for the first time

THE WOODS:
He made me a warping board to hang on the only blank wall in the house in the hallway. photo
here.
Woot warping board!!! It is finished and hung up now to give it a go………..hopefully this week!
THE WISH LIST: things I have found
I found an electronic counter for my modified by Jon verticle swift/skein winder!
And I got the mama bear swift n count conversion kit for 27.95

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Shop update early this week!

Because of the Holiday and also that we will be up north at the cabin without internet other than cellular..........here is a teaser of the shop update to go live at noon.

Tuesday 3-26

So glad this day is here!

Warping board made by Jon for me is finished and as soon as he mounts it on my wall I will take pics and get them posted!

I do not think that he will however make any of these for sale............but then again you never know with him!

Have decided that we will interview him on his ideas, take and expectations of the 3 year plan for Alaska!
I do know that he is already planning Moose hunting Fall of 2014! So in his mind we are finding the property this summer so that we can build next summer and invite family up for a hunt! Yikes!

He is also already planning the floor plan of our dwelling along with the expansion for 'our' shop. He needs a shop, I need a shop too! Mine might just be a modified kitchen though as he will create what he says is dirt and dust!

Shop update at http://northcabinfibercraft.etsy.com is scheduled for Thursday this week 3-28 at noon eastern standard time. Stay tuned for teasers to come as I have made a Grapefruit marmalade part 2 this week! Also watch for me to announce a scheduled recording or uploading of the new Podcast North Cabin Fiber Crafts on youtube or here on the blog!

Have a great Tuesday............smile.

Finally!

Guess what? I did it! I finally recorded a video podcast! Now if only I can figure out how to upload it!

I am handbraking it down for itunes, have applied for Bliptv.com and am trying to upload to youtube.

This is very confusing! And to think that I thought that the video taping of myself talking would be that hard part........................LOL! Yeah right!

Ok so I am working on all of the above and hope to have it up here on the site in no time...........fingers crossed and wish me luck!

Friday, March 22, 2013

It's Friday! Love it!

I am soooo happy it is friday! I feel sooo good!

Took some time at the dyepots last night.......exciting! LOL.

Update for Alaska you ask.........can't hardly wait! We booked our flight! June 25-Aug 6! Can you believe that it's that soon? I can't!

As for Jon spinning.........that didn't last long LOL. But he is making me a warping board and it might even be finished tonight so that I can test it out with some self striping next week! Super excited!

hmmmmmmmm ok so I spun up some of the electric purple that I dyed 2oz on white base and 2 oz on brown. Spun each colored base seperatley and then plied them together. They turned out fantastic! I think that I will have to find the right project to knit this up!

There are a couple braids up in the shop at http://northcabinfibercraft.etsy.com they look like this and below see how it spun up!

Thoughtful Thursday 3-7

I am thinking...........a lot about all the new items for the shop update next week!

Have been dyeing each night during the week this week in order to not have to try and get it all done on the weekends. I will save this weekend for photos of all the new yarn colors and to dye spinning fiber only.
I love this and can't wait to make it my full time job........it's not a job its a pleasure!

How many of us can say that what we do for a living makes our heart sing? One day I will be doing just that.
Funny thing is that it is a lot of work for sure! It's not just about the dyeing all things and colors you love but work to make it ready for sale.

Still love it though

Almost done spinning whats on my spindles......to ply next. After that I am spinning up some of a pretty fiber that I dyed myself.
Have a great day!

And this
 Turned into these! ---->

Day before Lasik Monday 2-18

Well today is my day before eye surgery! Excited to no longer have to wear glasses or contacts? Yes........just nervous about the procedure in general.
But I know it will be so worth it! I can't wait to lay on the couch and watch tv with no pushed over glasses! I can't wait to just be able to see outside clearly, to shoot a gun without glasses and for that matter be able to see better when taking photos!

Most of all...........our trip to Alaska........no lost glasses! To just get up in the morning and look around at all the glory of it all.

Finished the TGV shawl, love it!
Started Hitchhiker

Last weeks shop update was a success! Love it when others view my items and love them as much as I love making them! Thank you all!

Today is presidents day and federal holiday.........meaning no postal service. All of the packages are ready to go out tomorrow!

50 members in Ravelry group!

Ok folks we hit 50 members! I am so excited and thankful!
I will be doing a random number generated drawing and have a couple gifts to choose from!
I will post here when I have drawn and you can choose your prize!
Photos will be posted before drawing to be held on Wednesday.
Are you feeling lucky?

Also shop update this week will be on Friday 2-15 time yet to be determined.

I have spent the weekend dyeing more yarns!
One will be called ‘Dare ya’, one called ‘quaker-keet’, and ‘pining for you’ and ‘double dare’
sock bases are s/w merino/tencel, superwash bfl/nylon, s/w merino/nylon
Worsted s/w merino
Still working on spinning fiber of s/w bfl with a mix of dark brown and white base all dyed together. Can’t wait!

so the new color in Merino/Tencel is much similar to this bird. Bright yellowy green with gray and silver. Very pretty both in bird and in yarn!

Friday, February 8, 2013

Picked up useful trapping tools........yes trapping

So I thought it would be super special if I got 'him' a Valentines gift that is not only useful but pretty? Something that I think he needs for his 'trapping'.

One for skinning and one for fleshing. Hey they are pretty!

But I got myself one too...........been bugging for a good fillet knife right?

Announcement!!!! Friday Feb 8th

Good morning!

Wow it has been a couple day since I last posted. Not a problem though as I have been busy with the dye pots and a few new experiments LOL! I think these are gonna rock the house!

I have decided that once we hit 50 in the Ravelry group for North Cabin Fiber Crafts that I will do a random number generated drawing for a prize give away. Prize has yet to be determined as I have 2 that are really cool!

I have been knitting on the TGV shawl and on the home stretch, spinning mystery fiber from the swap at last years High Fiber Diet Podcast Knitting in the Mitten Retreat from November. Proving to be very pale tones of brown, cream, green/teal. I have almost finished the first 2oz and when I spin that other I will not pre-draft as much to try and get the brighter tones and colors to pop. Then ply the light and bright together for a fun colorway!

Alaska project still in place........boat hunting is an on going thing, mapping properties that we will want to visit along the rivers providing they are still available when we go late summer. Collecting goodies like tools, mosquito and fly nets, making lists and watching a lot of YouTube videos on boating down rivers and streams! LOL Men........they love that stuff!

In the Traps: this past week a couple of raccoons with very nice pelts......a missed coyote, he is just toying with the man and the trap!

I wish I had a few photos to put up..........I will in a couple days though! Have a good one!

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

Terrrrrrific Tuesday Feb 5

Well today is another great day!
b/f making a nice holder/stand for my yarn meter! This will make skeining a breeze!

Working on steamer inserts for my dye pans as I do a large majority in the oven.

This weeks plan is to kettle dye a new colorway! I think that I will be doing some spinning fiber and a DK weight yarn, may throw in some sock also. There are actually two new colors coming up soon.

Turned the corner you might say on the TGV Shawl by Susan Ashcroft starting the k2p2 edging.
Next on the list will be the hitchhiker shawl by Martina Behm  with one of my colorways. Thus the reason to dye up some DK.

Hey come on over and like us on facebook at North Cabin Fiber Crafts!

Have a great day!

Monday, February 4, 2013

Happy Monday! Feb 4

Well I am so happy………….isn’t it great when things start to fall into place?
I got mini moo cards on Friday……they are soo cute I will pop up a photo later.

I spent the night and all of Saturday with coggietm knitted, spun some and just talked way to much LOL

Spent the day with my man on Sunday……..going over books and getting my stuff in order now that I am an official business and all.
Executive decision was made. I am going to do shop updates once every two weeks. Or on say the 15th and 30th of each month.

This will give me time to better photograph items and be able to update a better variety of goods. Keep your eyes peeled for updates.

I am also planning my first video podcast and hoping that with the 'extra' time inbetween shop updates I can accomplish this feat of excellence LOL!
Have a great day all!

Random Act of Pattern Tuesday 1-29

Well every Tuesday on Plurk we all celebrate Tuesdays by randomly gifting patterns to either folks you know or better yet the ones you don't know!
We go to Ravelry.com and search out people then see what patterns might be on their wish list...........then purchase as a gift and it is sent right to them!

Awesome fun!

Sometimes people don't have anything on their wish list so if you want to be extra evil or kind you search the types, kinds or designers they seem to favor and gift something new!

I am on my way over to start the search for the lucky recipeient!

Update on my KAL shawl called.............TGV (which can be found by searching patterns in Ravelry.com)

Is working up as a quick simple knit to showcase different types of yarn. Can be made from any weight of yarn I am using fingering/sock yarn. With this yarn I will get pretty much a shawlette or glorified scarf. Ok with me as I don't wear big shawls much.

This is my progress as of yesterday.

Here are two examples of others finished ones
